I found this article in the NY Times. Its pretty interesting because it discusses the Education Gap in reference to the rich and poor of our country! Click on the link below!
I really liked this article because of how direct it was about the issue of poverty versus affluence. As we are told over and over in our education classes, the educational gap is growing and no matter what distrcit we teach in, it is our responsibility as teachers to help our students succeed.
Do you think that technology helps to close the gap, or serves to widen it? What can colleges do to help students who come from impoverished school districts be more successful once they're in college?
I found this article interesting because it allows readers to focus on a major issue which is commonly swept under the rug: the inequalities present in our current educational system. The level of education that students receive varies dramatically based on their socio-economic status and the current system in place is, quite frankly, inequitable. How do you feel that this educational gap can be lessened? Is technology the solution? If so, I wonder how schools who receive significantly less funding or are in low-income areas would obtain funding for these technologies and the extent to which they would benefit students and their academic, social, and professional performance.
